: the figures speak for themselves. We will be awarding a small prize to the person who helps us clock up our 1000th vote, probably some time on Tuesday 5th October. We will also be announcing some of the big names who have given us their support (no signature from MJA Movements yet...).

Will it be you?

Where have all the lorries gone? For a number of days, villagers have been holding their collective breath: there seems to have been a definite reduction in the volume of HGVs. Rumours circulate of a 'pact' between hauliers to use other routes for the next six months. Unfortunately no-one has told the ineptly named, MJA Movements company as these photos show.

Comments continue to flow in from far and wide. Nearly 230 people have already taken the trouble to leave their suggestions and ideas. We are passing these on both to North Somerset Council, our local MP and Atkins - the consultants for the Greater Bristol Strategic Transport Study.

The GBSTS is consulting about routes in this area now! Please tell them what you think about Banwell.

Hop on love: we'll give you a lift
if you're not in a hurry!

Long delays in all directions follow the breakdown of a digger outside Banwell Library, near the top of The Narrows. This is eventually towed away. Less easy to clear (because of the narrow streets) is the pollution. Even before this incident, this area of the village - known as 'The Square', was associated with very high levels of pollution from Nitrogen Dioxide. Over the last 18 months, mean readings of NO2 have regularly been above the government's recommended maximum level of 40ug/m3. On four occasions in 2003 the mean monthly figure was in fact over 50ug/m3

A pedestrian walking in a narrow section of the High Street was struck by the wing mirror of a silver car, registration X503 LOE, driven by a woman with small children in the car. The driver would not wait a few seconds for the pedestrian to reach a doorway in which to shelter. She did not stop. The incident has been reported to the police.

We are all frustrated by the delays:
but please try to be patient!

What a start! In the first 24hours of our campaign, 126 people sign our online petitition, almost equal numbers using the website and the texting option. Many of these also leave heartfelt comments about the misery of commuting through Banwell and wishing us well. The votes continue to flood in
